Listening to Dad

September 29, 2015

We started our day driving toward Cleveland. The day was blustery and cool. We had an 8 hour drive.

Rainy freeway. It has rained off and on all day
Wind farm
Highway East
Cleveland. Not sure what stadium this is but it certainly lit up the night

We listened to a CD that John copied from a cassette that our dad, Rex Terry, made telling about his service in WWII. He was in the Seabee's (construction and building in the Navy) and spent time in the Philippines as a cook and on a construction gang. He landed on Normandy Beach. It was interesting to listen to his voice and to hear his stories.

He was claustrophobic and couldn't stay in his fox hole. He said he would rather die than be in a hole so he sat on the beach near his fox hole and watched the bombing. Glad he survived!

He had allergies so bad while in France that he was sent to England to a hospital. My mother in Rhode Island received a telegram that my dad had been wounded. She didn't know for days if he was alive or not. I can't imagine how she was feeling!

We also are listening to a Jack Reacher book. It is set in Nebraska so we can relate.

It was an uneventful trip across Indiana into Ohio. We are staying tonight in Mentor, Ohio just a few miles north of Kirtland, our first stop tomorrow.

Just want you to know you are in my thoughts and that you are loved.
